Working in both oil and pastel, Lydia Pottoff’s impressionistic landscapes and figurative works explore her connection to the essence of the natural world. A passionate explorer, she often backpacks with her painting gear to capture the effects of light and atmosphere in the outdoors.
Lydia Pottoff
Lydia has a Bachelor of Arts in both graphic design and fine art from Metropolitan State University and worked as a designer and art director, finally becoming a partner in a Colorado creative agency for twenty-five years.
A desire to create a more personal vision led her back to fine art and she has pursued her passion in painting, both in plein air and studio work since 2001. The late Elizabeth Mowrey, author and Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America, continues to influence both her approach and attitude toward painting nature and capturing the magic within.
She has received numerous awards for her pastels including second place in the 2018 Plein Air Artists of Colorado, and in 2019 both the ‘Heilman Award of Excellence’ in the Colorado Pastel Society’s Mile High National Show and the best ‘Town Painting’ and poster contest winner at the Estes Park Plein Air Festival.
She enjoys teaching classes and workshops in pastel.
Lydia’s work has appeared in Southwest Art and she was recently featured in the online publication Voyage Denver.
Her work is held in private collections throughout the U.S.
She also participates annually in the Open Studios Tour in Boulder. To see her work on their website visit:
